COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Henzie’s Bat Fails to Save Master’s, 17-7

Russ Henzie was three for three with two home runs and Chad Hankinson was three for four with two runs batted in for The Master’s, but it wasn’t enough to overcome visiting Christ College, which posted a 17-7 victory Wednesday in an NAIA District 3 baseball game.

Master’s fell to 16-13, 9-6 in district play.

SOFTBALL

Cal Lutheran 19-11, Occidental 0-0--Senior right-hander Leslie Stevens tossed her second career no-hitter in the second of two nonconference games at Cal Lutheran.

Stevens (11-1) struck out 12 and walked one. She also was a combined four for seven and drove in four runs in the two games--both of which were called after five innings because of the mercy rule.

Margie Sievers (9-1) pitched a three-hit shutout in the opener for Cal Lutheran.

Brenda Frafjord was six for seven and drove in five runs for Cal Lutheran (20-2).

Canyons 1, Cuesta 0--Kelly Kepplinger’s triple scored Sheila Backman in the first inning, and gave the Cougars (12-12, 4-1) a Western State Conference victory over Cuesta (0-4 in conference play) at Canyons.

Kepplinger, who also doubled, went two for three and threw out two Cuesta runners at first from right field.
