Documents Sought in Debt Deferral on A-12: A House committee chairman threatened to subpoena the two biggest U.S. defense contractors’ documents seeking deferral of a disputed $1.35-billion debt payment on their failed A-12 Navy attack plane work. Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.), chairman of the House Government Operations Committee, called deferral of the payment by McDonnell Douglas and General Dynamics the biggest defense contractor bailout in U.S. history. He threatened to subpoena papers the contractors filed in support of the deferral if the Navy does not turn them over to the committee by Monday.
