Titans’ Baird Selected by CFL in First Round
Todd Baird, who played sparingly for the Cal State Fullerton football team the past two seasons, was informed Tuesday that he was a first-round selection by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League draft.
Baird, a special teams player who caught 10 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown in 1990, was born in Canada, and CFL teams have to meet a quota of Canadians on their rosters. Baird, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound slotback, is expected to report to the team by June 8.
Baird, a San Diego Vista High School graduate, spent five years at Fullerton but played only two seasons. He sat out his freshman year (1986) because he didn’t meet Proposition 48 guidelines and missed the 1987 and ’88 seasons because of a knee injury.
He was selected special teams player of the year in 1989 and was used sparingly as a wide receiver in 1990, when the Titans went 1-11.
