Bond to Build Valencia School to Go on Ballot
The William S. Hart Union High School District will place a $35-million bond issue on the November ballot to pay for a new high school.
If two-thirds of the voters in Santa Clarita approve the measure, the money would be used to finance the district’s fourth high school, which would be built in the Northbridge area of Valencia, said Bill Maddigan, the district’s business manager.
The bond measure is necessary to relieve crowding in the district, which is 23% above capacity with more than 10,000 students enrolled, Maddigan said. The district cannot get the money from the financially strapped state, he said.
It is the first time since the early 1970s that the district has sponsored a communitywide bond measure, Maddigan said.
