Mar Vista 6, Southwest 4--Pablo Medrano went two for four with two RBIs for the Mariners (6-7-1, 1-5). Winning pitcher Rick Quinones (3-2) struck out 10 in a complete game. Southwest is 3-8, 1-5.

Chula Vista 8, Hilltop 7--With one out and bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, David McVey’s single scored Anthony Hysaw with the winning run. Hysaw, whose RBI in the bottom of the seventh sent the game to extra innings, had reached base on a walk. The victory lifted the Spartans’ record to 8-7, 4-1. McVey went three for five with one RBI. Hilltop is 7-4-2, 2-3-1.

Bonita Vista 6, Sweetwater 5--Bonita Vista scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win. Mike Dole had a two-run double to tie the game, and Ron Battle drove in the winning run. Battle went two for four, and Dave Edwards had two RBIs for the Barons (2-9-1, 2-3-1). Sweetwater is 5-7-1, 2-3.

City Central League

Crawford 14, Hoover 6--Brian Gaske’s bases-loaded triple highlighted Crawford’s seven-run third inning. Miguel Maldonado went three for three with three RBIs for Crawford (6-10, 2-1). Tony Banks went two for four with four RBIs for Hoover (1-13, 0-3).

Madison 5, San Diego 4--Madison (5-8, 2-0) scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to upset San Diego (10-5, 1-1). Brad Tade had a two-run single and consecutive RBIs by Brian Delgado and Chris Mookini made a winner of Mike Jones (3-2). Delgado, who had an RBI triple in the sixth, was three for four. Mookini had two hits.

City Eastern League

Patrick Henry 7, Serra 3--Patrick Henry’s Zedrick Martin hit a three-run double with two outs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Martin finished three for five with two doubles and four RBIs. Teammate Jeff Williams went two for three with a triple and an RBI. Patrick Henry improved to 4-8, 2-1; Serra dropped to 11-6, 1-2.

Mira Mesa 5, Point Loma 3--Mike Bovee had a two-run homer to lead fourth-ranked Mira Mesa (14-3-1, 2-0), which had only four hits off Point Loma pitcher Ray Plummer (2-3). Drew Arnold, Frankie Edsall and Lee McAfee also had RBIs for the Marauders. Brendan Hause allowed eight hits for Mira Mesa. Mike Williams had two hits and Josh Serrano a two-run single for Point Loma (8-8, 1-1).

City Harbor League

Clairemont 5, Coronado 2--Gus Mendez’s RBI single in the fifth inning tied the score and Rabbit Henry followed with a run-scoring triple to give Clairemont (7-6-1, 1-1) the lead for good. Craig Goodwin went two for three with one RBI. Coronado dropped to 4-6, 1-1.

City Western League

Mission Bay 13, University City 3--Danny Gil went two for three with three RBIs, and Ivan Espinoza went three for five with one RBI as No. 6 Mission Bay (12-4, 2-0) routed No. 10 University City (10-4, 2-1). J.J. Ibarra and Joe Enomoto each scored four times for the Buccaneers. University City’s Mike Saipe went two for four with two RBIs.

Nonleague

St. Augustine 14, Lincoln 6--John Mozerka had a homer and four RBIs, Aaron Goncalves had three hits, three runs and four RBIs, and Mike Bryant had two hits and two RBIs for St. Agustine (10-6). Aaron Douglas went four for four with a double, homer and two RBIs for Lincoln (4-7). Jorge Inzuna improved his record to 5-0.

SOFTBALL

Metro Conference

Chula Vista 2, Hilltop 1--Jennifer Martinez pitched a four-hitter and outdueled Hilltop’s Jackie Hill, who allowed five hits, in the battle for first place. Chula Vista (12-4, 6-0) scored its runs in the fifth inning. Marisa Renteria’s RBI single scored the first run and Joie Bonilla drove in the winning run. Hilltop is 4-1 in the Metro.

Sweetwater 4, Bonita Vista 3--Theresa Ellorin’s two-out, two-run single in the top of the eighth was enough to lift Sweetwater (4-9, 3-2), which also got run-scoring singles from Melissa Benton and Marabel Castrellon. Jessica Juarez struck out eight and allowed Bonita Vista (6-4, 2-3) six hits. The Barons had the winning run at first base when the game ended.
