A gunman and two accomplices robbed a Canyon Country jewelry store of more than $200,000 in jewelry, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Friday.

The gunman and another man entered the Gold Craft jewelry store in the 18300 block of Dolan Way minutes after it opened at 8 a.m. Thursday and ordered an employee to open the safe, Lt. Harvey Cantor said. A woman then joined the men in the store, he said.

The gunman ordered the employee into a bathroom and bound his hands and ankles with tape and taped his mouth shut, Cantor said. The robber pushed the man to the floor and closed the bathroom door, Cantor said.

The three stole five trays of jewelry from the safe, Cantor said.

After 10 minutes, the employee hobbled out of the bathroom, pushed the store’s holdup button and telephoned police, Cantor said. He was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia complaining of chest pains but was released after doctors determined he had not suffered a heart attack, Cantor said.

No arrests had been made Friday, Cantor said.
