Vance Lobell Wins at Los Alamitos
Vance Lobell, the 6-5 favorite, won his fifth consecutive Invitational Handicap at Los Alamitos Saturday night and spoiled the 1991 debut of Till We Meet Again, the 1989 champion 2-year-old pacer. Vance Lobell’s mile time of 1:54 was the fastest mile of the meet and marked his fifth win in nine starts this year.
Speedy Alba finished second by a head and Mercury was third. Till We Meet Again, making his first start since the 1990 Breeders’ Crown at Pompano Park in Florida Nov. 2, held the lead to the eighth pole before tiring and finishing last in the five-horse field.
