Weeping jungle animals survey a field of tree stumps, thinking: “If people cut the trees, we will have to live in the zoo.”

An enfeebled planet Earth with a red thermometer in its mouth grieves that “the world is getting sicker and sicker.”

Those were among the paintings shown to 16 elementary school students at Sebastian International’s Woodland Hills headquarters Wednesday.

The students were asked to evaluate paintings, essays and art projects submitted to the Little Green competition, which drew more than 1,200 entries from students at 54 Los Angeles schools.

The contest was organized by Sebastian International, a hair-care and cosmetics company owned by an environmental activist, who hopes to help improve ecological instruction for children.
