OJAI : Blaze Damages Remodeled House
A fire that appeared to have started in a fireplace severely damaged a recently remodeled ranch house in east Ojai on Friday night.
Eight engines of firefighters from the Ventura County Fire Department fought the blaze at 4508 E. Grand Ave. for more than an hour.
An official cause of the fire, which was reported at 7:55 p.m., and a damage estimate were not available Friday.
Andrew Stasse, who lived at the home with his four children, was alone when he started a fire in the fireplace, said Mark Stallmacker, Stasse’s neighbor. Stasse was in the attic later in the evening when the fire began. Late Friday he was being treated for smoke inhalation.
