SWAT team members persuaded a Clairemont woman into surrendering Sunday night after she used a handgun to threaten her son and another male in her home, police said Monday.

The 57-year-old woman, whom police did not identify, was taken into custody at her home in the 6300 block of Mt. Acre Way shortly after the incident, which began at 7:12 p.m., police Sgt. Michael Gibbs said Monday.

The initial incident was reported as a suicide attempt, but when the woman began threatening others with a .22-caliber handgun, the SWAT team was called in, Gibbs said.

A SWAT team negotiator spoke to the woman by telephone and talked her into surrendering without a struggle, and no one was hurt, police said.
