80 Firefighters Battle Blaze Near USC Campus
Fire erupted in an apartment building under construction near the USC campus early Wednesday and spread to a nearby structure before firefighters controlled it nearly an hour later, authorities said.
The fire in the building at 2801 S. Ellendale Place was reported at 3:28 a.m., Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said. About 80 firefighters from 19 companies were sent to the scene. The flames threatened two adjacent apartment complexes and damaged one two-story building at 2727 S. Ellendale Place, he said.
The fire was extinguished at 4:21 a.m. Three people suffered minor injuries.
