SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV
“Run for the Roses,” “The most exciting two minutes in sports” and “For one of these teams, there’s no tomorrow,” figure to be heard more than once on a sports television weekend highlighted by the Kentucky Derby and at least two NBA playoff series finales.
Horse Racing: ABC’s 90-minute coverage of the 117th Kentucky Derby begins at 1:30 p.m. on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42. Post time at Churchill Downs in Louisville is 2:32 p.m. PDT. ESPN will broadcast a two-hour Derby special from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., with live coverage of three races from Churchill Downs and a look at the day’s festivities.
Pro Basketball: Channels 4, 36 and 39 will televise NBA playoff action this weekend. The Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls open their Eastern Conference semifinal series at 10 a.m. today. The surprising Seattle SuperSonics face the Portland Trail Blazers in the fifth and deciding game of their Western Conference quarterfinal series at 12:30 p.m. today. Games will also air at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
Baseball: The Dodgers are scheduled on KTTV Channel 11 at 4 p.m. today against the Philadelphia Phillies. CBS (Channels 2 and 8) will air the Cleveland Indians-Oakland Athletics game at noon Sunday. ESPN’s 5 p.m. Sunday game matches the New York Yankees against the Seattle Mariners.
