A woman and her teen-age daughter were found shot dead and another young daughter critically wounded late Tuesday afternoon in their home on a quiet residential street in West Covina, police said.

The victims were discovered by Erwin Teschner, husband of Evelina Teschner, 54, and father of Tracy, 18, and Tanya, 17, when he returned home shortly before 5 p.m., said Cmdr. John Distelrath, chief of detectives. Tanya Teschner and her mother were pronounced dead at the scene. Tracy Teschner was in critical condition at Inter-Community Medical Center in Covina.

The victims had been shot in the head, apparently with a small-caliber weapon, Distelrath said. Teschner found his wife in the living room, and his daughters on their beds in separate bedrooms, Distelrath said.

Friends reported seeing the teen-agers unharmed as late as 3 p.m.

Distelrath said Evelina Teschner was to have met her husband at a hospital for an appointment with his doctor. Erwin Teschner, owner of an engineering company, returned to the family home in the 1200 block of South Shasta Street when she failed to show up, police said.

Investigators said that one of the family’s cars--a 1985 black Mercedes with the license plate 2UTK648--was missing.
