OXNARD : Laborer Apparently Beaten to Death
The body of a 25-year-old transient who was apparently beaten to death was discovered Wednesday near the railroad tracks in Oxnard, authorities said.
Roberto Gonzalez Ordonez was pronounced dead of neck injuries at 6:20 a.m. in the railroad yard in the 500 block of East 5th Street, the Ventura County coroner’s office said. He had also suffered head and facial injuries, Oxnard Police Sgt. Denny Phillips said.
Gonzalez Ordonez’s death was ruled a homicide, coroner’s investigator Jim Wingate said. However, police classified it only as a possible homicide.
Detectives said it appeared that there was a fight in the area. A piece of wood that seemed to have blood on it was found nearby and may have been the weapon used in the slaying, Phillips said. No arrests have been made in the case, Police Sgt. Frank Porter said.
Gonzalez Ordonez, whose parents live in El Salvador, worked as a day laborer.
