BOWLING PBA AT RIVERSIDE : Williams Leads Qualifiers Into Today’s Finals

Among the five finalists in the $145,000 Kessler PBA tournament are two left-handers, John Mazza and Parker Bohn III.

No left-hander has won in the seven PBA tournaments at Riverside, so that dry spell could end today on the Town Square Lanes, where the finals begin at 11 a.m.

The finalists in their order of finish Friday after 42 games of this four-day event are:

1. Mark Williams, the Texan who hasn’t won since the 1988 Firestone Tournament of Champions.

2. Former Kansas collegiate bowler Bryan Goebel, whose outside shot on the right side of the lanes kept him on or near the lead most of this week.

3. Michigan’s Mazza, who is seeking his second consecutive title.

4. New Jersey’s Bohn.

5. Oregonian Marshall Holman, the all-time pro money leader ($1.5 million), who also has hasn’t won since 1988.

Randy Pedersen of Santa Maria, in 14th place, was the high Southern California finisher. Pederson scored tournament’s only perfect game Friday afternoon.

Today’s four-game showdown will be televised live by ESPN.
