Events of Memorial Day Weekend

The Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains will present its Memorial Day Art Exhibit, its final art exhibit for 1991. The exhibit will be held Saturday through Monday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Peter Strauss Ranch (Lake Enchanto), 30000 Mulholland Highway, Agoura. The prize winners of seven previous art shows and exhibits will display their artworks. The winners of this art exhibit will be announced at the reception Sunday, which will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. No admission charge to view the exhibits. For more information, call (818) 597-1036.

Special Memorial Day services will be held Monday by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Conejo Valley Post No. 3866 at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village. The annual Las Virgenes/Conejo Valley service will be held at 10 a.m. and this year’s service will be dedicated to the memory of all deceased servicemen from the Las Virgenes/Conejo Valley area. Patriotic music will be performed by the Thousand Oaks High School band and a historic presentation will by given by Dan McDemott. The Canoga Park Chamber of Commerce and the Canoga Park Community Center will sponsor the Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade at 11 a.m. Monday at Sherman Way and Owensmouth Avenue. The parade theme is “This Land Is Your Land.” The parade route will be east on Sherman Way to DeSoto Avenue, south on DeSoto Avenue to Vanowen Street, and west on Vanowen Street to Owensmouth Avenue. A special feature will be the Pipes and Drums of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (The Desert Rats), one of the British Army’s premier cavalry regiments. For more information, call (818) 884-4222.

The Canoga Park High School Future Farmers of America will present Western Day on Monday in conjunction with the Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade. The Western Day events will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include games, food, livestock, exhibitions, a petting zoo and more. The high school is at 6850 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Canoga Park.
