Outfielder Mark Whiten of the Toronto Blue Jays and pitcher Jack McDowell of the Chicago White Sox, who were involved in a fight on Sunday, were suspended for three games each Thursday by American League President Bobby Brown.

McDowell immediately appealed the decision through the Major League Baseball Players Assn., meaning his suspension will not take effect until after a hearing before Brown. Toronto had an off day Thursday and union lawyer Michael Weiner said Whiten would decide today whether to appeal.
