A second person has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a Simi Valley transient earlier this month, police said Friday.
Chery Bates, 30, turned herself in at the Simi Valley Police Department Thursday after she learned from relatives that she was wanted in connection with the severe beating of her former boyfriend, Vernon Stone, police said.
Bates, who is a transient in the Simi Valley area, was being held in the Ventura County Jail on $250,000 bail.
Earlier this week, Michael Souter, a 40-year-old transient in the Ventura area, was arrested in the case. He remains in Ventura County Jail on $250,000 bail.
Police declined to elaborate on the connection between Bates and Souter or the investigation.
Stone was beaten with a blunt object on the afternoon of May 12 at the Simi Valley adult education campus on Los Angeles Avenue, where he often slept, police said.
He suffered head injuries and is in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, police said.
