The United States won three of the last four bouts, including a controversial final, to salvage a 6-6 tie and end a 15-match dual losing streak to Cuba.
Super heavyweight Larry Donald of Cincinnati benefited from two penalty points for holding assessed against Cuba’s Freddy Rojas by U.S. referee George Benedetto to win a 2-1 decision in the final bout to create the tie.
