COUNTYWIDE : Election Chief to Resign Over Conflict

Share

Ventura County’s elections chief said Wednesday that she will resign next month because of an ongoing conflict with her supervisor, County Clerk Richard Dean.

“I just don’t get along with him,” said Schepler, 47. “We see things differently. I think that’s the only way to word it.”

She declined to discuss further the details of her resignation, which will become official June 21. Schepler said she has not yet decided whether she will apply for another job with the county or just take some time off.

Dean could not reached for comment Wednesday.

Schepler, whose official title is assistant registrar of voters, has worked in the Elections Division of the county clerk’s office for three years, where she oversees a staff of 11 election officers. Her job is to manage all county elections, which includes everything from processing candidate filings to tallying votes.

“I hate to go,” Schepler said. “I liked the job a great deal, and the people in the office were fantastic. But sometimes you have to make a choice. This was the only way for me.”

Schepler said she had been thinking about resigning for some time and finally decided a week ago to notify Dean of her intentions.

She said one of her assistants, Bruce Bradley, has been named as her replacement. Bradley declined comment on Schepler’s resignation.
