MISSION VIEJO : Development Pact Gets Council OK

Share

An agreement that would map out future construction in this nearly completed planned community was conditionally approved by the City Council last week.

By a 5-0 vote, the council agreed to the development pact with the Mission Viejo Co., but imposed a grading restriction on a parcel of land on El Toro Road in the northern end of the city.

The condition would require the company to bring plans to develop the property before the Planning Commission before starting any grading activity.

Councilman Robert D. Breton said the council is trying to protect an environmentally sensitive area that could be home to several endangered species of plant and animal life.

“I think this is a very reasonable request,” he said. “We wanted to make sure they don’t touch (the parcel) until we have a long look at what they want to do there.”

A Mission Viejo Co. spokeswoman said the company is still waiting to see a written version of the condition before deciding whether to sign the development agreement.

“I think we would probably make a decision by next week,” said company representative Wendy Wetzel.
