BASEBALL : DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Giants’ Mitchell to Undergo Surgery

Kevin Mitchell of the San Francisco Giants, will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today and be placed on the disabled list. Mitchell, who had been sidelined recently because of a strained ligament, returned to the starting lineup Friday night and complained of soreness Saturday after driving in three runs in an 8-2 victory over Atlanta. Mitchell ended a four-for-33 slump with two hits Saturday. The runs batted in were his first since May 6. He is batting .269 with 10 home runs and 24 RBI.
