OUT OF TUNE: The departure from Orange County of the Fender Musical Instruments Corp. of Brea, founded in radio repairman Leo Fender’s garage in Fullerton in 1950 (D5), will leave the county with just one legendary guitar name. . . . Rickenbacker International Corp. makes about 10,000 guitars a year in a small plant in Santa Ana. While Fender guitars have a grittier, bluesier tone, the Rickenbackers’ jangly sounds were favored by groups like the Beatles and the Byrds. Fender, who died in March, was a pioneer producer of electric guitars and a local institution.
