A Los Angeles Municipal Court judge granted a prosecutor a short continuance to pursue a possible lead in the trial of three USC football players accused of restraining a woman and sexually assaulting her, said George Lomeli, a deputy city attorney.

Judge Edward A. Ferns ordered attorneys not to discuss the information that has led the Los Angeles city attorney’s office to investigate the potential evidence.

Lomeli is nearing the end of his case against Michael Jones, Willie McGinest and Jason Oliver, sophomore football players.

The woman, a 23-year-old graduate student, charges the defendants dragged her into a USC dormitory room and molested her. The players said she entered the room voluntarily, and they did not touch her in a sexual manner.
