The song “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” should have a new stanza added to remind fans not to forget their wallets.

A typical family of four will spend on average $76.22 at a Major League Baseball game during the 1991 season, a 6.3% increase over last year, according to a survey Team Marketing Report.

The “fan cost index” covers the cost of four game tickets, two draft beers, four hot dogs, four soft drinks, two souvenir baseball caps, two game programs and parking.

The cost for attending a game has risen 72% from 1980.

The average ticket price for the 1991 season is $8.34, up 71 cents, or about 9%, from last season. That is double the price from 1980, when the average ticket cost $4.32.

An evening at Toronto’s Sky Dome watching the Blue Jays will lighten your wallet the most of any team, at $93.29 for all items in the index. The Dodgers’ total charge is $71.32; the Angels’, 71.10, and the Padres’, $73.
