Water and Building

So we’re going to be treated to a gigantic new civic center in downtown Los Angeles (Metro, May 29). How exciting! In line with the policy of water conservation, surely the high-rise hotels, shops, restaurants and buildings will be unique--they’ll have no showers, toilets, bathtubs, dishwashers or greenery to maintain!

Is it comforting to you, as you cut short your shower, that our individual deprivation of water for necessities and letting our gardens go will contribute to a huge new county tax base (spelled more ego-building political power)? Just as the supervisors vote themselves another pay raise? Or do you feel you’re being had? And beginning to see the reality behind the current “water shortage”?
