SPORTSCOPE : Entries Being Accepted for Golf Tournament
The seventh annual Toro Invitational Golf Tournament will be held June 28 to benefit the Cal State Dominguez Hills athletic department.
The tournament, to be played at California Country Club in Whittier, will be broken into two flights to allow for two champions and will have a scramble scoring format with a shotgun start.
Entry fee is $125 per foursome, which includes awards dinner, prizes and a silent auction of professional sports memorabilia. In addition, tour pro Pearl Sinn will conduct a pre-tournament clinic at noon. Entry deadline is June 18. Information: (213) 516-3893.
The newly formed South Bay Girls Basketball Club is looking for games in the 13-and-under and 11-and-under age groups. The club, based at Palos Verdes High, is sanctioned by the Amateur Athletic Union. The coach is Wendell Yoshida. Information: (213) 543-3755 days, (213) 318-5491 evenings.
Inter Los Angeles upset previously undefeated Yugoslav Airlines in overtime to win the Greater Los Angeles Soccer League championship at Daniels Field last weekend.
Yugoslav won the first game, 2-1, but lost the second, 1-0, to force an overtime. Salvador Alcala won the game for Inter L.A. with a goal in the 105th minute. Inter L.A. captain Miguel Lopez was named the league’s most valuable player.
Four South Bay golfers recently scored holes in one at Harbor Park, three of them on the 165-yard, par-three eighth hole.
James Martinovich of Carson got his first hole in one using a five-iron. Robert Rea of Torrance used an eight-iron for his ace. Dino Pires of Inglewood also scored an ace on the same hole.
Brooke Benedict of San Pedro scored an ace on the 205-yard, par-three sixth hole. She used a five-wood.
The Inglewood YMCA is accepting registrations for its adult and youth summer basketball leagues and its youth softball league. Adult league play continues through Sept. 12. Youth teams will be selected June 15 and the first games will be held on July 13. Registration is open through June 22. Information: (213) 671-7615.
The annual Peninsula soccer, basketball and baseball camps will be held in one-week sessions at Palos Verdes High. The soccer and baseball camps are designed for boys and girls age 6 to 14 and the basketball camp is for youths 7 to 15. There will be different sessions for boys and girls.
