SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Police on Tuesday were searching for a group of men who forced their way into the home of a man and his son Monday and tied them up before robbing them.

Police Lt. Ed McErlain described the incident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Monday, as a “home-invasion” robbery.

McErlain said the group of three or four men knocked on the door of Heng Ung’s home in the 8000 block of Tyler Avenue, displayed handguns and knives and forced their way in, demanding valuables.

Minutes later, Ung’s son, Suong Ung, 21, arrived home. The intruders, holding the son at gunpoint and holding a knife to his father’s throat, demanded to know where valuable items were kept, police said.

After the 46-year-old father told the men where jewelry and other items were kept, the two victims were bound and gagged.

The men left with an undetermined amount of goods, including gold, silver, jewelry, two cameras, a handgun and the Suong Ung’s car, police said. They left the scene in an unidentified black car and the stolen vehicle, a 1984 Mazda RX-7 with California license plate 2HLD209, police said.

The two victims untied themselves and called the police. They were not injured, McErlain said.

The suspects were described as Asian-American men in their early 20s, ranging in height from 5 feet, 3 inches to 5 feet 9. Police are still searching for the stolen car, and have no additional leads in the investigation, McErlain said.
