IN BRIEF : UC Santa Cruz Course Will Focus on Dickens

Share

Charles Dickens and the Victorian era in which he flourished will be the focus of a weeklong summer session Aug. 4-10 at UC Santa Cruz. This 11th annual Dickens extravaganza will focus on the author’s earliest and funniest work, “The Pickwick Papers,” and on the lucrative publishing venture launched to make it available and affordable to the reading public.

Co-sponsored by the Dickens Project--a multicampus research unit headquartered at UCSC--the program will bring together eminent Dickens scholars from around the world, students, teachers and Dickens devotees from the general public.

The event will feature lectures, workshops, discussion groups, dramatic readings, a Dickens book fair, Victorian teas, evening sherry hours and other festive events of a Dickensian nature. For applications and further information, call the Dickens Project, (408) 459-2103 or write Room 354, Kresge College, UC Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz 95064.
