La Puente : Pool Hall Permit Denied
In the wake of Planning Commission concerns that a new downtown billiard and video game parlor would encourage loitering and gang activity, the City Council on Tuesday turned down a businessman’s application to open such an establishment.
The council voted 5 to 0 to deny the application by Everardo Cortez to install six pool tables and 10 video games at 15824 Main St.
In a report to the council, the Planning Commission expressed concerns that the proposed pool hall would encourage loitering in front of nearby businesses and increase graffiti and gang activity in the area. The commission also noted that the site is within 200 feet of an existing pool hall.
