One man was shot to death and two others were wounded in a sidewalk confrontation Thursday night.

Lt. Robert Sayne said a group of men were standing on McFadden Avenue just east of Main Street when another group approached. Words were exchanged and shots fired. One unidentified man was shot in the head and killed. Two others appeared to have been hit in the torso by a small-caliber weapon, Sayne said.

Details were sketchy, but police apparently had no suspects. Sayne said the victims appeared to be neither juveniles nor gang members.

Angel Gonzalez, 50, the father of one of the victims, said he was preparing to eat at 8:30 p.m. when a neighbor knocked at his door. The neighbor said Gonzales’ 25-year-old son, Pedro, had been shot.

“I want to go (to the hospital) to check on him, but I don’t know anything,” Gonzales said. At 11 p.m., he still did not know where his son had been taken or what his condition was, he said.

One of the wounded men was taken to UCI Medical Center, and the other was taken to Western Medical Center.
