Countywide : Los Alamitos Parade to Salute Military

Hundreds of residents are expected to turn out for a parade today in Los Alamitos to welcome home returning troops from the Persian Gulf War.

The parade, including the 164th Maintenance Company and the 236th Maintenance Company reserve units, will travel down Katella Avenue from the San Gabriel River Freeway to Lexington Avenue starting at 3 p.m. The two units, stationed at the Los Alamitos Armed Forces Reserve Center, served in Saudi Arabia during the war.

Police Cmdr. Gary Biggerstaff said the parade will show that the city is “proud of our local military base and the fact that they contributed significantly to the (war) effort.”
