Golden (Goldie) Desmond Holt, a longtime Sherman Oaks resident who coached in the major leagues and had a lengthy minor league career with the old Los Angeles Angels, died Tuesday of cancer at a Burbank hospital. He was 89.

Holt pitched and played third base in the minor leagues from 1923 to 1948. He went on to coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Chicago Cubs and the Dodgers, for whom he also was a scout, minor league manager and instructor. Holt retired from the Dodgers in 1982.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. Donations can be made to the Assn. of Professional Baseball Players of America, 12062 Valley View St., Suite 211, Garden Grove 92645.
