Share

The Big Eclipse is coming July 11 and you don’t have a clue to what it means, let alone how to explain it to the kids?

Not to worry--help is here. Ed Krupp, astronomer, author and director of Griffith Observatory, can slip you some answers Tuesday during his free lecture and slide show at the California Map Center, a Santa Monica store.

His presentation will include stories from his new book, “Beyond the Blue Horizon” (HarperCollins), about the impact of the sun, moon, stars and planets on various cultures.

“Eclipses represent a catastrophic intrusion in people’s lives; they try to devise means of scaring this supernatural being away,” Krupps says. “This leads to a desire to anticipate eclipses, so they become great recreational events. Nobody should leave this Earth without seeing (one) once.”
