Socker Future Still Up in the Air

The Sockers still are talking to potential investors; Gordon Jago still is trying to lure a buyer for an MSL expansion team for Dallas; and Commissioner Earl Foreman “is bullish on Buffalo” entering the league.

Foreman expects “a positive announcement about Buffalo in the near future, probably next week.”

Randy Bernstein, Socker vice president, hopes to hear something definitive late this week. And Jago isn’t sure when he’ll have news.

The expected announcement from Buffalo, however, might depend on what happens in Dallas and with the Sockers.

“The rumor I hear,” Jago said, “is if we get both San Diego and (Dallas) back, then we’ll have a 10-team league.”

Already committed for next year are Cleveland, Kansas City, St. Louis, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. On the fringe are the Sockers, Dallas, Tacoma, and Wichita.

That’s nine teams, the 10th would be Buffalo.

Sockers Coach Ron Newman and Bernstein on Tuesday continued discussions with three potential owners about funding the financially stricken team.
