The jury began deliberating Thursday in the fraud and embezzlement trial of Ventura County Community College District Trustee James T. (Tom) Ely and his wife, Ingrid, but failed to reach a verdict.
The panel is expected to resume deliberations at 8:30 a.m. today.
For much of Thursday morning, Judge Lawrence Storch reviewed instructions, including details about fraud and embezzlement laws, with jurors.
The Elys are accused of conspiring to steal $15,000 from the college district by padding expense accounts and overestimating mileage and parking fees between April, 1988, and January, 1990.
Tom Ely is charged with 29 counts of conspiracy, embezzlement and fraud. Ingrid Ely is charged with one count each of conspiracy, grand theft and embezzlement.
