Former Cincinnati Bengal running back Stanley Wilson was sentenced to a four-year, suspended term in Long Beach Superior Court after pleading guilty to breaking into a home and stealing clothes and jewelry, purportedly to support his cocaine habit.

The 29-year-old Banning High graduate, who was banned from the NFL for substance abuse, was ordered to remain in a drug program and to pay more than $5,000 in restitution. He was put on five years’ probation and ordered to complete his college education and to perform 300 hours of community service.

According to terms of a strict new drug-abuse policy passed at Ball State University at Muncie, Ind., athletes testing positive will be suspended from intercollegiate competition for one year.

All athletes must sign the policy approved by the board of trustees before they participate in sports.

Under the new policy, an athlete also can be suspended from practice for a minimum of 90 days for a positive test.

A second positive test will lead to permanent loss of eligibility.

The policy does not mandate testing, using probable cause as the only criterion to demand an athlete be tested.
