Water Rationing Goal Met
For the second consecutive month, residents saved more water than the 20% demanded by the city’s rationing program, though they slipped slightly from the month before.
City officials said water consumption in June is down 22% compared to the same period last year. In May, the first month of mandatory cutbacks, there was a 24% reduction.
The city this month also issued its 10,000th rebate of $100 for retrofitting toilets and shower heads with low-flow fixtures.
Monthly surcharges for property owners who do not retrofit have doubled to $2 for single-family homes and $1.30 per unit for multifamily dwellings. The money raised by the surcharges funds the rebates and other components of the city’s water conservation program.
