Yugoslavs Beat Italy to Retain European Title
Dino Radja, a star in the Italian League for Messaggero Roma, scored 23 points and Yugoslavia won its second consecutive European Basketball Championship with an 88-73 victory over Italy Saturday at Rome.
Toni Kukoc added 20 points and Vlade Divac of the Lakers had 10 for Yugoslavia. Davide Pessina scored 14 points for Italy.
Yugoslavia again played without guard Jurij Zdovc, a Slovenian who boycotted the last two games of the tournament at the request of sports officials in the secessionist republic.
Zdovc was the only Slovenian in a collection of players from Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia.
Spain beat France, 101-83, for third place, its highest finish since 1983.
