WESTMINSTER : Boy on Bike Hurt by Passing Car at Mall
A Westminster boy was in good condition Tuesday after a car struck his bicycle Monday night at Westminster Mall.
Jose Basave, 6, was riding along a sidewalk at the mall at 6:17 p.m. when he rode off the curb in front of a passing car and was struck, Police Sgt. Russell Silva said.
Jose, who was accompanied by his parents, Jose and Ambrosio Basave, was not wearing a cyclist helmet and suffered head injuries. He was treated by paramedics and taken to Humana Hospital-Westminster. During the evening his condition worsened and he was transferred to Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Silva said.
A CHOC spokeswoman said Jose was resting comfortably in good condition Tuesday afternoon with stable vital signs.
Excessive speed was not a factor in the accident, and the driver was not cited, Silva said. An investigation is continuing.
