One sailor was shot to death and two shipmates were wounded outside a fast-food restaurant in Barrio Logan during what may have been a gang-related fight, police said.

Ronnie Bridges, 20, a crewman on the amphibious transport dock Duluth, died at 10:15 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of a Burger King restaurant at 1220 28th St., Chuck Bolton, a coroner’s investigator, said.

Bridges, Kenneth Dixon, Christopher Williams and other shipmates got into an altercation with a group of young males at the north side of the building about 10:15 p.m., San Diego Police Lt. Gary Learn said.

“For whatever reason, there was an exchange of words, a fistfight in the parking lot,” Learn said. “Then someone obtained a gun and opened fire.”

The suspect, described as a Latino male in his 20s, fired more than 10 rounds with a 9-millimeter semiautomatic, Learn said.

Bridges, wounded in the chest, died at the scene.

Dixon, who has wounds in his right knee and right thigh, is in fair condition at UC San Diego Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. Williams, with wounds in the groin, upper thigh and upper arm, is in critical condition there.

According to witnesses, including other sailors and about 20 other bystanders, “there is an indication that it could be gang-related,” Learn said. He would not be more specific.

Witnesses said the suspect fled in a large, dark-colored, American car, and his companions drove off in a blue, foreign compact, Learn said.
