San Marcos
A 52-year-old Vista woman died early Sunday when her car was struck by a hit-and-run driver, authorities said.
Doris Rauch was killed shortly after midnight when her 1981 Volvo was broadsided on the right side at the intersection of La Mirada Drive and Poinsettia Avenue in San Marcos, officials with the county medical examiner’s office said.
The car, driven by the deceased woman’s husband, Otto Rauch, was northbound on Poinsettia Avenue when it was struck by a 1980 Mustang traveling westbound on La Mirada, officials said. The two occupants of the second vehicle fled the scene on foot and were being sought Sunday, officials said.
Authorities said the Mustang may have run a stop sign at the intersection before ramming the couple’s car.
Otto Rauch was treated for injuries at Palomar Hospital.
