Have the recent earthquakes caused more displacement than was first thought?

Jack Biggs of L.A. wonders, after picking up an RTD map of the always-mysterious San Fernando Valley, which places Universal Studios in Canoga Park, Topanga Plaza in Studio City and Warner Center in La Canada Flintridge.

Biggs points out that at least 20 of the 42 listings appear to be incorrect. (Travelers will be relieved to learn that Burbank Airport is in the right spot.)

It’s too soon to tell whether it’s the work of the same saboteur who recently inserted an apocalyptic message into the RTD’s emergency phone system. That taped message, you may recall, told RTD employees after the Sierra Madre earthquake that “We are all doomed” and advised them to drop their pants and “kiss” part of their anatomy “goodby.”

Luckily, in the case of the disoriented map, the RTD left itself some leeway in case someone should point out, for instance, that the Panorama City Shopping Center is in Panorama City, not Lakeview Terrace.

“The information presented in this brochure,” says the brochure, “is subject to change without notice.”

What, you’ve probably never asked yourself, would go into a 1975 time capsule?

A wax manufacturer, citing its decision to stop using ozone-destroying substances in its products that year, is trying to hype the anniversary by sending the media containers filled with such 1975 memorabilia as:

1--A mood ring.

2--An Elton John T-shirt.

3--A psychedelic, square-shaped Peter Max balloon.

4--A pair of men’s platform shoes.

5--An eight-track stereo tape.

6--A Nov. 1-7, 1975, TV Guide that lists, among other shows, “Matt Helm,” “Kojak” and “Police Woman.”

Ah, memories. We’re burying ours immediately.
