The New York Knicks, involved in a salary dispute with center Patrick Ewing, may file tampering charges against the Golden State Warriors, according to the New York Times.
The newspaper reported in today’s editions that Ewing’s agent, David Falk, may have persuaded the Warriors to restructure Chris Mullin’s contract. Ewing’s contract contains a clause that allows him to become a restricted free agent if he is not among the four highest-paid players in the NBA.
The newspaper quoted a source close to the Knicks as saying they believe Falk persuaded the Warriors to raise Mullin to $3.2 million next season, making Ewing the fifth-best paid player. Bill Pollak, Mullin’s agent, said the Warriors contacted him earlier this year about restructuring Mullin’s contract. The deal was set, but never completed, Pollak said.
