San Diego police said Tuesday that they have a suspect in custody in the slaying of a cabdriver in a robbery attempt.

Brian Keith Milligan, 26, of San Diego, who was arrested Saturday in an unrelated incident, has been linked to the shooting death of David C. Brown, Lt. Dan Berglund said.

Milligan was arrested at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, about six hours after the cabdriver was slain, after he was seen forcing a woman at gunpoint to perform a sex act, Sgt. Alicia Lampert said.

A small-caliber handgun recovered in the arrest “appears to be the same gun” used to kill the cabdriver, Berglund said. “We’re checking it through ballistics now,” he said.

Milligan was scheduled to be rebooked on a murder charge late Tuesday or today, Berglund said. He is being held in County Jail in Chula Vista.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Kris Anton, who will handle the case, said she expects to decide today whether to file charges against Milligan.

Milligan is suspected of shooting Brown, 36, as the cabbie waited in an alley in the 300 block of Imperial Avenue for a passenger to return.

Brown, who had worked for Radio Cab Co. for about six months, was approached by two or three men demanding money before he was slain. No cash was taken, Berglund said.
