SAN CLEMENTE : City Gets Its First Park-Ride Station

The city’s first park-and-ride station has been established for car and van-pool participants.

About 50 spaces are now being set aside for commuters by the Ramada Inn at 35 Calle de Industrias, near Interstate 5’s Avenida Pico interchange.

“We felt the area needed a park-and-ride,” said Maria Lopez, spokeswoman for the South Orange County Transportation Management Assn. “There are a lot of commuters in this city, and the nearest park-and-ride was in San Juan Capistrano, about 10 miles north of here.”

The local transportation agency, a creation of the city and the Chamber of Commerce, is working with Caltrans to erect several directional signs on both sides of the freeway. Lopez said they will be installed in the coming weeks.

The park-and-ride lot, which will be designated by special striping and signs, is open 24 hours.

The lot, next to the Pico Plaza shopping center, has “good visibility,” Lopez said. “This is a good location. It will be a benefit to a lot of commuters in this city.”
