From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A man was wounded by gunmen in a south Oroville park, an attack described by sheriff’s investigators as Butte County’s first drive-by shooting. The victim, Edward Lewis of Oroville, was hospitalized in satisfactory condition. Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Burdine said Lewis was shot in the hip when two men armed with handguns fired into a park gathering and fled. Burdine said the shooting may have been linked to street gang warfare that has been developing in the largely rural county in recent years.
