A Huntington Beach man was jailed early Sunday in the stabbing death of a bar patron after the suspect was found riding a bicycle three blocks from the murder scene.

Responding to a call about a stabbing, police found the victim, Serafin Torres Martinez, 31, of Huntington Beach, at about 1:55 a.m. in the parking lot of the Ebbtide Bar on Beach Boulevard.

Lt. Patrick Gildea said Martinez was rushed by ambulance to Humana Hospital-Huntington Beach, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

At about 2:50 a.m., Gildea said, Officer Steve Schnars saw a man fitting the description of the assailant riding a bicycle on Queens Lane, north of Slater Avenue, about three blocks from the bar.

Schnars arrested the suspect, Hector Romero Orea, who was later identified by witnesses and held on suspicion of murder, Gildea said.

Orea remained in Huntington Beach Jail on Sunday, with bail set at $250,000, Gildea said. Police are investigating what led to the stabbing.
