U.S. OLYMPIC FESTIVAL LOS ANGELES 1991 : NOTEBOOK

Long wait: Waiting for competition to begin can be nerve-wracking, but Parr stayed relaxed Sunday at the L.A. Equestrian Center.

An animal lover, Parr got a big laugh out of one of the resident pets--a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig that rode shotgun in a maintenance man’s golf cart.

“Oh God! I’ve got to have one!” Parr said as the pig--named Homeboy--grunted and squealed and wagged its wiry tail to the delight of a small crowd of athletes.

The pot-bellied pig, Parr was told by its owner, is often described as the Pet of the ‘90s because of it’s clean nature. Homeboy, he said, was trained to use a kitty litter box.

Unfortunately, there was no litter box on the cart, and Homeboy couldn’t wait. Hopefully, the West team rider who was sitting with Homeboy when the accident occurred got a clean uniform before the start of competition.
