Excellent Party for ‘Bill & Ted’

The scene: Thursday night’s premiere of “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey,” the sequel to “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” in which we find the lovable lunkheads from San Dimas going through heaven and hell (literally) to win the Battle of the Bands and their Princess babes. A screening at the Chinese theater was followed by a totally bogus party at the Palladium where only a few people showed up and left after five minutes . . . Not !! Actually, scores of suits met Sassy subscribers at the party featuring lavish buffets and ear-splitting heavy metal music. The VIP area reached a fever pitch when reporters, photographers and TV crews descended on the celebs. The heat caused spandex to fuse on people’s bodies.

The buzz: Teeny-boppettes panted for their heavy metal rock star faves. Guests over 30 complained about feeling old in the company of youngsters with no visible pores in their faces.

Who was there: The film’s stars, Alex Winter, Keanu Reeves and William Sadler; screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon and director Pete Hewitt; plus Paul Stanley, Edgar Winter, Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli, Teri Garr, Billy Wirth, Julian Lennon, Christina Applegate, MTV’s Downtown Julie Brown, Alyssa Milano, Heather Locklear, Esai Morales, Rick Dees, Gene Simmons, Vince Neil and band members from Slaughter, London Quireboys, NWA, Faith No More and Neverland.

Dress mode: Contempo Casuals must have been cleared out for this event, judging from the amount of ultra-short dresses, see-through blouses and skintight jeans. Dudes opted for black-on-black-on-black, accessorized with chains, boots, earrings, tattoos and hairsprayed hair. Paul Stanley gets the Most Chest Hair Exposed Award.

Chow: The spread, catered by Ambrosia, included Cajun shrimp, blackened sand dabs, black bean chili, salads, pizzas and an elaborate dessert bar that made grazing potentially lethal. Requisite recycling bins were scattered about.

Quoted: “He’s a blast to play,” said Alex Winter of his alter ego, the air guitar-playing Bill. And how does he feel about being one of Sassy magazine’s favorite pinup boys? “I think they’re only interested in people from 18 to 25. After 26, it’s like Menudo, you don’t exist anymore.” Does Winter, 25, read the mag? “Oh yeah, religiously,” he said. “I subscribe to the National Review and Sassy.”

Overheard: A harried TV producer was angling to get some celebs on the air--fast. “I need them live--rather than dead,” she said.

Entertainment: The rock ‘n’ roll lineup included Mike Bordin and Jim Martin of Faith No More, with Kirk Hammett of Metallica jamming with the band Primus, and Edgar Winter playing a set with Richie Kotzen.
